Most Maxonians will be familiar with Ian Curtis and the world famous music of Joy Division. The singer who was born in Macclesfield committed suicide in 1980 at a small flat in Barton street just as Joy Division were to start a US tour. After Curtis died, a small memorial stone was laid at the kerbside in Macclesfield cemetry. The stone has become the most famous stone in the cemetry, attracting many vistors every year.

Unfortunately, thieves have stooped to a new low and stolen the Ian Curtis memorial stone from the cemetry. Why would anyone do  something so low? The stone is so well known it would be very difficult to sell. The stone may have been taken by a misguided fanatical fan.

Whoever is responsible for this cruel act has ruined the memorial of Ian Curtis, not only for his family but thousands of fans worldwide.

If you know who has the stone just get them to put it back.
